Age groups are defined as:
Preschool: 4 -5 years old (starting kindergarten)
Elementary Group 1: entering 1st – 2nd grades
Elementary Group 2: entering 3rd – 5th grades
Middle School: entering 6th – 8th grades
High School: entering 8th – 12th grades
Before/After Care
Day Camp runs from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Before and after care is available for $25 per week per child, age 4 – entering 5th grade. Early morning care will extend from 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. including a breakfast full of whole grains, low-fat milk and juice, yogurt, fresh fruit, and yummy breakfast loaves. Christ-centered aftercare, from 3:00 – 5:30 p.m., will be led by Park Avenue United Methodist Church. Snack provided.
Computer Lab
The PAYFS Computer Learning Center will be utilized as a resource by the entire Urban Summer Academy. Our newly outfitted lab has 20 computers with all kinds of cool software for kids (and adults).

Electronic Devices
Don’t bring them. Neither PAYFS nor PAUMC are responsible for them. Students being disruptive with devices or any type of toy or gadget may have item held by staff until day’s end.
Finale Dinner
On Thursday, July 28, please plan to join us for our Finale Dinner. Middle schoolers will cook nutritious food from the Park Avenue Community Garden and all of our scholars will show off what they have learned.
Friday Field Trips
PreK – 5th grade of the Urban Summer Academy will go on field trips on Fridays, every week except the week of July 4. Usually, the entire group will be going to the same place.
Garden
All Urban Summer Academy class groups will be utilizing the Park Avenue Community Garden for hands-dirty learning. Our new community garden is being supported by a nonprofit organization called Urban Farming, which receives support from Kraft/Triscuit Corporation.
Meals
All children at Urban Summer Academy, as well as in the surrounding community, are welcome for free breakfast (8:00-8:30 a.m.) and lunch (12:00 – 12:45 p.m.) every day that camp is in session. Adults may purchase a lunch, if there are any available, for $3.50. Our new food supplier, Done Right Food, will be bringing us healthy and delicious meals this year. Breakfast will be full of whole grains, low-fat milk and juice, yogurt, fresh fruit, and yummy breakfast loafs. Lunch will consist of a protein, a carb and fresh fruits and vegetables. Lunches will alternate between hot and cold entrees.
Refunds
Refunds will be made (minus a $20 administrative fee) up until one week before the camp or activity you are canceling.
Registration
Payments by credit card may be made online. To make a payment by check or money order, please download a paper registration form and mail or bring them in together. To pay by cash, please stop by the Park Avenue Youth & Family Services office at 3400 Park Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55407. 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday.
Schedule
Day camps will run from Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., June 20 - July 29.
Scholarships
For a scholarship application form, please call 612-825-6864, x518 or download a form here. SCHOLARSHIP FORM. Parents should expect to pay at least half the cost of a camp or activity. To register with a scholarship application, please download a paper registration form and mail them in together (or email to michelle.higgins@payfs.org) or just stop by the office.
Shoes
All participants (PreSchool – Middle School) should wear comfortable clothing suitable for being active, making art, gardening, etc. Please wear closed shoes and socks (athletic shoes), not sandals. If your child does not come in shoes, you will be called to bring them.
